CID Contributes to Regional Dialogue on Youth Empowerment and Peacebuilding
On 11 October 2026, CID’s Founding President, Chanroeun Pa participated in the Third China–Cambodia–Thailand Track II Dialogue in Shenzhen, China, organized by China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU).
.
The dialogue brought together scholars, researchers, and think-tank representatives from China, Cambodia, and Thailand to exchange perspectives and explore practical approaches to strengthening regional peace and cooperation. Discussions focused on four key areas: International Law, Economy and Livelihood, Public Health and Humanitarian Assistance, and Youth Exchange.
.
Drawing on his experience as a former Youth Peace Ambassador and his longstanding engagement in youth empowerment, civic education, and leadership development, Chanroeun Pa contributed to the Youth Exchange Working Group, emphasizing the importance of meaningful youth participation in building mutual understanding, trust, and lasting peace.
.
One of the key outcomes of the working group was the China–Cambodia–Thailand Youth Peace Initiative, which proposes establishing a trilateral Youth Peace Ambassador Exchange Mechanism. The proposed initiative seeks to strengthen youth cooperation through leadership and peacebuilding training, educational and cultural exchanges, joint research, community-based projects, and youth participation in regional policy dialogue.
.
Reflecting on his participation, Chanroeun Pa highlighted that lasting peace depends not only on diplomatic agreements but also on mutual respect, understanding, and trust among people. Drawing on his own regional peacebuilding experience dating back to 2005, he reaffirmed a principle that continues to guide his work:
.
“There is no way to peace; peace is the way.”
.
CID believes that young people have an important role to play in bridging differences, fostering dialogue, and building relationships across borders. Creating opportunities for young people to learn together, exchange perspectives, and cooperate on shared challenges can help lay the foundations for a more peaceful and connected region.
Through its commitment to civic education, youth leadership, dialogue, and peacebuilding, CID remains dedicated to encouraging constructive engagement and people-to-people cooperation that contribute to lasting peace and sustainable development in Cambodia and the wider region.
